Kueh Bangkit is a traditional Nyonya biscuit cookie. It is made from Tapioca flour. The Hokkien word "Kueh" means bite-sized snack/dessert food. The word, Bangkit can be somehow translated as fragrant cookies. It is a cookie that crunches when you bite but melts in your mouth as you chew.
I believe many people who were born in the 80-90s, celebrate Chinese New year eating the traditional snacks such as egg rolls, pineapple tarts, kueh bangkit and more... These Nostalgic food are what brings us into the Mood of festive seasons.
I've gotten Kueh Bangkit from The Peranakan! As you may have read about my post for The Peranakan, the Peranakan dishes are Authentic Traditional and it is handed down through three generations of Nonya Baba family, same goes to these handmade biscuit. The taste and chewing sensation is slightly different from the "junk food" preserved snacks I've eaten. It doesn't melt in your mouth as quickly as the norm and it's pretty filling.
If you want to try these Authentic Nonya cookies, here's what The Peranakan can provide for your CNY Celebration:
