Hidden within the lush greenery of Singapore Botanic Gardens, il Giardino offers a unique Italian dining experience where food meets nature in the most enchanting way. I had the chance to attend a media tasting here — and from the moment I stepped in, I was charmed by the ambience and soon after, completely wowed by the food. Here’s everything we tried — and the standout dishes you must order when you visit.
I recently had the pleasure of attending a media tasting at il Giardino, a charming Italian restaurant tucked away in the serene Singapore Botanic Gardens. The garden setting added an elegant, natural backdrop to what became an unforgettable dining experience.
We began with the Beer Bread ‘Gnocco Fritto’ paired with a refreshing Ginger Flower Salsa Verde. Alongside came three appetisers:
– Panzanella ‘Singapura’ (V)
– Artigiana Stracciatella (V)
– il Giardino Hand-Cut Pressed Potatoes, a deceptively simple dish that turned out to be one of my favourites — incredibly crispy on the outside, tender inside, and flavourful throughout.
Then came the showstopper: Slow Cooked Venetian Octopus. This wasn’t just delicious — it was theatre. The octopus, enormous and beautifully cooked, was cut in front of us and served with gremolata, lemon, toasted bread, and premium olive oil. Its tenderness and richness left a lasting impression.
For mains, I loved the Spaghetti alle Vongole, elevated with aromatic herb crumbs, and the Porcini & Ricotta Ravioli (V). The dish simply called “Parma” — featuring Parma ham, mushrooms, arugula, honey, and truffle cream — offered a harmonious and fragrant mix of flavours.
Other notable mains included the juicy ½ Roasted Corn-fed Chicken, Pan Roasted King Salmon, and hearty Slow Braised Osso Buco.
We ended the meal with their Affogato, a delightful dessert that’s more of an experience than just a sweet treat, and Hazelnut Gelato with almond and coffee crumb — the perfect finale.
If you’re craving a combination of fresh Italian cuisine, gorgeous ambience, and a unique experience, il Giardino is worth every bite.
Whether you're planning a romantic date, a weekend brunch, or just a quiet escape into nature with amazing food, il Giardino delivers on every front — atmosphere, flavour, and experience. Add this to your must-visit list if you're craving Italian cuisine in a serene, garden setting.
